WAA Cameroon News and Updates

2023: A Year of Resilience and Impact

The year 2023 was marked by many challenges and difficulties, but also by many achievements and successes. Despite the unfavourable context, we remained committed to our mission of promoting peace, empowerment, and education in Cameroon. Here are some of the highlights of our work in 2023:

  • We trained and equipped over 250 youth with skills in peacebuilding and advocacy within the VOYCE and Transforming Mindsets for Youth Engagement in Crisis Prevention and Inclusive Peacebuilding projects in the North West and South West regions of Cameroon.

  • We trained over 50 youth connectors for peace on income-generating activities and provided them with necessary supplies and support for their businesses.

  • We trained and equipped over 70 caregivers with essential skills in psychosocial counselling.

  • We organized an intergenerational dialogue involving over 200 participants – youth leaders, traditional and religious leaders – to foster mutual understanding and cooperation.

  • We furnished community schools and learning facilities with didactic materials and school equipment (200 chairs, 300 benches, 100 tables, 50 boards and chalk, books, etc.), and enrolled 700 students and 150 pupils.

  • We organized the 4th edition of the National Youth Camp for Peace involving 75 participants from the different regions of Cameroon, to exchange experiences and best practices on peacebuilding and also equip them with life skills and career orientation.

  • We trained and equipped 15 female traditional leaders with skills and techniques to enable them to raise awareness against child marriage and to offer psychological support to survivors of gender-based violence.

  • Our Youth Think Tank Clubs for Peace carried out community activities, advocacy on local radios, and other initiatives to promote peace and social cohesion.

These are just some of the many activities that we carried out in 2023, thanks to the dedication and hard work of our team, partners, and beneficiaries. We are proud of the impact that we have made in the lives of many people, and we are grateful for the support and collaboration that we have received from our local and international partners. We sincerely thank the Ministries of Women Empowerment, Youth and Civic Education, the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict, Trauma Center Cameroon for their technical support, the European Union, Open Society Foundation, UN Women, CUSO International for funding our activities.

We are also grateful to all our participants and networks, and all those on the field who worked tirelessly to ensure the safe and effective implementation of our projects and the achievement of our desired outcomes.

2024 offers us a chance to do even more, to advance gender justice, human rights, peace and security, and to combat stigmatization and create sustainable opportunities for women, youth and the girl child in Cameroon and the Central Africa sub-region.

As we wish you all a Happy New Year, we encourage you all to take action against stigmatization and all forms of violence.
